Day 1 - Athens - Arrival Day- Half Day City Tour Athens

Our friendly staff will welcome you at the Athen’s airport and will start our sightseeing tour, including visit Acropolis. Acropolis is the Acropolis of Athens or Citadel of Athens is the best known acropolis in the world. It is the significance of the Acropolis of Athens, such as that it is commonly known as The Acropolis without qualification. The Acropolis was formally proclaimed as the pre-eminent monument on the European Cultural Heritage list of monuments on 26 March 2007. The Acropolis is a flat-topped rock that rises 150 m (490 ft) above sea level in the city of Athens, with a surface area of about 3 hectares. It was also known as Cecropia, after the legendary serpent-man, Cecrops, the first Athenian king. You drive by the Parliament building where is the Tomb of the Unkown Soldier on Constitution square, by the neoclassical buildings of the Academy, University and National Library, by Hadrian’s Arch and by the Temple of Olympian Zeus which was the largest of all Greek Temples. Visit of the Acropolis with its magnificent monuments: the Parthenon, the Propylaea, the Temple of Athena Nike and the Erechtheion with its Porch of Maidens. Visit also of the New Acropolis Museum, where you will see the original statues which decorated the Acropolis of the 5th century B.C. Visit of the Panathenian Stadium which was rebuilt in 1896 for the first modern Olympics on the ruins of the ancient one. (Note: On Mondays as the New Acropolis Museum is closed, you visit instead the Temple of Olympian Zeus). At the end of the tour, we will transfer you to hotel. Overnight in Athens.

DAY 2 : Athens - Corinth - Epidauros - Nauplion - Mycenae - Olympia

Leave by the coastal road to the Corinth Canal (short stop). Drive on and visit the Theatre of Epidauros famous for its remarkable acoustics. Then proceed to the Town of Nauplion (short stop) drive on to Mycenae and visit the Archaeological Site and the Tomb of Agamemnon. Then depart for Olympia through Central Peloponnesus and the Towns of Tripolis and Megalopolis. Overnight in Olympia, the cradle of the Olympic Games.

DAY 3 : Olympia - Nafpactos - Deplhi

In the morning visit the Archaeological Site with the sanctuary of Olympian Zeus, the Ancient Stadium and the archaeological Museum. Then drive on through the plains of Iliad and Achaia until the magnificent bridge which is crossing the Corinthian Bay from Rion to Antirion. Pass by the picturesque Towns of Nafpactos (Lepanto) and Itea, arrive in Delphi. Overnight.

DAY 4 : Deplhi - Kalampaka - Meteora

In the morning visit the archaeological Site and the Museum of Delphi. Depart for Kalambaka, a small Town situated at the foot of the astonishing complex of Meteora, gigantic rocks. Overnight.

DAY 5 : Meteora - Tempi - Dion - Olympos - Thessaloniki

Visit Meteora, among striking scenery, perched on the top of huge rocks which seem to be suspended in mid-air, stand ageless Monasteries, where you can see exquisite specimens of Byzantine art. Depart from Kalambaka, drive through the plain of Thessaly and the valley of Tempi, arrive and visit the Archaeological Park of Dion. Admire also the gigantic figure of Mount Olympos, the highest mountain in Greece and home of the 12 Gods of Mythology. After the visit depart for Thessaloniki, the second largest and the most vibrant city in Greece. Overnight.

DAY 6 :  Thessaloniki - Veria - Naoussa - Edessa - Pella - Thessaloniki

Depart in the morning for a unique approach to historical Macedonia. First stop at Veria (Biblical Beroea) to visit Saint Paul's Bema, and then stroll through the old Jewish neighborhood and the colorful market area. A walk in a city where past is present and around. Then proceed to Naoussa, to a site of exceptional beauty and importance: Aristotle's School, the impressive scenery where the great philosopher taught ‘the doctrines of morals and politics' to Alexander and the Macedonian youths. In only a few miles away is picturesque Edessa where we see the town's famous landmark, the Waterfalls. Then comes Pella, the capital of Alexander the Great. See the exquisite floor mosaics of the 4th century b.C. villas, in situ as well as in the new Museum. Return to Thessaloniki. Overnight.

DAY 7 : Thessaloniki - Vergina - Athens

See in the morning the city that throughout the era of the Byzantine Empire, was the "co-reigning" city, second in population and prestige only to Constantinople. Visit unique monuments and feel the glorious Byzantine past in some of the oldest and most characteristic churches of the Christian world as well as in the Museum of Byzantine Culture, awarded with the Council of Europe's Museum Prize for the year 2005. Drive to Vergina, to live the experience of a visit to the unique Museum, created in the Great Tumulus covering the royal tombs of Macedonia. See the astonishing findings from the tomb of King Philip II, Alexander's father, and feel the thrill of the greatest discovery of the 20th century. After the visit we shall start driving south and through Thessaly, Lamia, Thermopylae (see the Leonidas' Monument) and Thebes, arrive in Athens late in the afternoon.

Additional Info :

To enter the monasteries, appropriate clothing is required. Ladies should not wear short skirts and must have long sleeves. Men are not allowed to wear shorts. Normally we are visiting Great Meteoro Monastey and St. Stefanos. Every Tue, we are visiting instead of Great Meteoro, Varlaam monastery. The tour may be operated by a multi-lingual guide.
